On 28 January, a gala reception was held by Mikhail Krishtal to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Togliatti State University. Seventy-eight TSU employees were presented with special awards.

February was marked by inclusion of the TSU Project for Establishment of the National Research and Development University into the complex investment plan of Togliatti modernisation up to 2020.

In April, the Jubilee Exhibition "Togliatti State University 60th anniversary: Experience. Quality. Innovation" took place in Togliatti Tennis Centre. Within the frames of the event, the working group of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation held a visiting session on monocities and regional employment policy.

Another remarkable event of the exhibition was 1,092 people participating at once in the most massive tournament of the popular Russian intellectual game 'What? Where? When?' Also, 297 Togliatti State University employees were presented with the highest awards.

In May, Togliatti State University received a diploma for assisting in setting the Record of Russia in the category "The most massive tournament of the intellectual game 'What? Where? When?' The diploma certifies that the record was registered in the "Russian Book of Records" which signifies national and worldwide acknowledgment.

On 23 May, the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev held a meeting with researchers from the USA, Japan, the UK, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and other countries, who won the first Russian education and science grant competition for research and development projects based in Russian universities' sites. Togliatti State University was represented by Aleksey Vinogradov, Head of the international level laboratory "Physics of Strength and Intellectual Diagnostic Systems".

On 1 June, Togliatti State University opened the Religious-Public Forum "Russian Society and Spiritual Development of Povolzhye Ethnic Groups" dedicated to the 160th anniversary of Samara Region and Samara diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church establishment. Forum worked until 3 June.

In June, four of Togliatti State University projects: The Laboratory "Physics of Strength and Intellectual Diagnostic Systems"; the Innovation and Technologies Centre; the National Research and Development University of Energetics and Mechanical Engineering based in TSU; and the Engineering Centre Launch Project for Designing Aluminum Frame Vehicles with Plastic Paneling were included into the complex investment plan of Togliatti modernization.

On 25 June, Togliatti State University became a winner in the competition "Top 100 Russian Universities and R&D Institutes" for the second time. Rector Mikhail Krishtal was awarded a gold medal "Top 100 Russian Universities" and a diploma "Best Innovation and Technical University (Innovation Leader)".

In August, Togliatti State University students and alumni team ascended one of the Central Tien-Shan summits for the first time. The peak of 4,321 meters high was named "Togliatti State University".

The same month, the Government of the Russian Federation accepted the Project of Togliatti State University Innovation Infrastructure Development and granted its support. Only 22 winners out of 147 applicants were awarded the grant. TSU was the only university from Samara Region that won the contest. The received funds were mostly spent on high-technology equipment.

In September, Togliatti State University hosted the III International Environmental Congress ELPIT with more than one thousand participants from twelve countries of the world. At the same time, TSU welcomed visitors from INHOLLAND University of Applied Sciences (the Netherlands), and a delegation represented by Pavlos Pavlou, Vice-President of the University of Nicosia (Cyprus), and Andrey Korneev, President of KNK Universe Cyprus Pro company.

From 26 September to 1 October, Togliatti State University hosted the V International School of Material Science and the VI National Youth Scientific Conference “Micro Mechanisms of Plasticity, Destruction and Associated Phenomena”.

In October, a first year student Anastasia Kukhareva won the title “Miss LADA”; and later - in December - she won the title “Miss Togliatti” and the right to enter the beauty contest “Miss Russia”.

Within the framework of a joint education project of JSC “Togliattikauchuk” and Togliatti State University “School-Institute-Plant” the first in the city specialised chemistry class was established in Togliatti secondary school No23.

On 1 October, during the motor rally “Togliatti State University - Driving to Success” the students, teachers and professors, as well as employees of the University, drove along main streets of three cities in Samara Region - Togliatti, Zhigulevsk, and Syzran. The university representatives informed potential students about TSU advantages, latest achievements, education programmes, and extra-curriculum activities.

In November, the Archbishop of Samara and Syzran Sergiy consecrated the site where the University Chapel of Saint Tatiana will be built. A cross was erected on the site the same day. The Chapel construction is financed by donations from TSU graduates and partners, as well as from Togliatti citizens and organizations.

The University newspaper “The Togliatti University” celebrated its ten year anniversary. In commemoration of the date, a special issue dedicated to milestones of the newspaper history was published.

On 17 November, the Governor of Samara Region Vladimir Artiakov and the President of the Fund “Skolkovo” Viktor Vekselberg visited Togliatti State University. Within the frames of the visit, an agreement on cooperation was signed between Samara Region government and the Fund “Skolkovo”. Apart from this, V. Artiakov and V. Vekselberg held a meeting with Togliatti State University students where they discussed particular questions interesting for the students.

21 November - Togliatti State University TV-studio won the first prize of the X Jubilee National Television Contest “TEFI-Region” with its documentary “AutoGen” in a special nomination “People Who Create Tomorrow. Profession: Engineer”.

24-27 November, a Forum for the rectors of leading Russian and Italian universities took place in Rome. The Rector of Togliatti State University Mikhail Krishtal took part in this forum.

In December, three small innovative enterprises of Togliatti State University got residential status in the Technopark of High-Technology Industry “Zhiguli Valley”.

20 December - the Academic Council’s resolution on Togliatti State University institutes and faculties restructurisation became effective. Structural changes are supposed to enhance levels of employers’ requirements satisfaction. New structure of the University includes twelve institutes and 50 departments.
