The Faculty of Physical Education and Sport was founded in 1989 and since that time it has been providing the city and region with professionals in the field of physical education, sport, adaptive physical education and healthy lifestyle.Sports facilities are available for both training and recreational use.


The faculty offers academic programs for students who choose to major in physical education and will develop specialized physical education skills in order to teach in the elementary and secondary schools. They will be the leaders in promoting physical education in society.Through teaching, research, coaching, creative activity, community involvement, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport develops, shares and applies knowledge of physical activity and sport. The students are encouraged to carry out scientific research in the field of physical education. This is to help develop society's awareness for the need of physical education and also, to help find solutions to problems related in this area.


The Faculty’s graduates usually become physical education teachers, coaches, or work in the sports and recreation fields. They have developed the skills and strategies needed to enhance physical activity and health in community, academic, business, and sports agency settings, and design training/rehabilitation programmes for disabled people. Graduates are prepared for a wide range of career outlets such as PE teachers, coachers, physical activity and fitness leaders, sport managers, exercise physiologists, and college and university professors.


Among Faculty’s graduates there are distinguished sportsmen, champions of Russian, European, and international competitions, as well as the Olympics in a wide range of sports (such as gymnastics, wrestling, rowing, athletics, boxing, swimming, acrobatics, skiing, mountaineering, etc.).
An enrolled period for a new specialty “Recreation and sports and fitness tourism” was opened in 2010. Graduates of this specialty will work in the field of water, pedestrian, bicycle and alpine tourism, as well as the organization of active free time.
